My new pair of shoes

I  was sitting with my laptop when I heard him shouting, "Priya!". I ran into his room, he was lying down. Mom came running from kitchen behind me. I ran towards him and tried to understand what had happened. Mom called our family doctor, Mr. Tripathi. Uncle came after half an hour and as he checked dad, he announced him dead.

It's been 5 years and today is my birthday. I sat beside my collection of shoes early morning. Dad used to gift me a new pair of shoes on my every birthday. Now his absence is the only gift I get. Mom tried to surprise me many times, but nothing worked. After a time, she lost herself finding me after dad was no more.

She came to my room in afternoon and sat beside me. After whipping my tears she asked, "Why don't you meet Aditya at least for once?". I replied, "Mom, I have already told you my response towards him. It's is fine if you want him to enter your life, but please tell him to stay away from me". She didn't say anything and left.

That night, I was getting ready as some of my friends had forced me to party with them wanting to make me feel happy. I got ready and wore one pair out of the collection from dad. As I was about to leave, doorbell rang. I thought mom was there to open the door, but after it rang 3-4 I went and opened the door.

Mom entered with Aditya. As I ignored them and walked towards my room, Aditya stopped me and requested a few moment from me. I told him, "I was getting late to meet my friends". He replied, "Just talk to me for once and if you anywhere feel not interested, you can immediately leave our conversation in middle". I looked at mom who was already looking at me with hope. I sat with Aditya and Mom.

It's been two years since then and I have my 19th birthday today. I wore the pair of shoes which my dad gifted me and what I have learned from him is that the word "step" can just explain a relation and not its emotion.
